Education is primary to economic development. Knowing how to read, write and think opens up possibilities and a new world for all. Illiteracy is a painful reminder of inequality; we want to bridge the educational divide through sponsorships.

The school year in the Guatemalan Highlands is from January to October. We are seeking child and teacher sponsorships for the 2009 school year. School sponsorships are needed throughout the year.

SPONSOR A CHILD IN 2009

The attrition between primary school and middle school is considerable due to lack of financial resources. We want to help bridge this need through a student sponsorships. Every donor, or "padrino", will receive a photo and information about your student.

Cost: $20/month for one year ($240.00).

SPONSOR A TEACHER IN 2009

Like many other teachers around the world, teachers in Guatemala work hard and are underpaid. In addition, due to a series of issues, teachers often do not get paid on time, if at all. This presents extensive hardship for the teachers, many of whom are married and have children. This inconsistency impacts teacher motivation and incentive. We believe that such can be reversed through teacher sponsorships.

The teachers in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala earn 11Q an hour ($1.75/hour), when they do get paid. To top this off, they only receive less than $100/year for teaching supplies. We would like to invite you to sponsor a teacher for the 2008 year.

Cost: $30/month for one year ($360.00).

We are committed to finding people like you who want to invest in the education of a child struggling in poverty. We invite you to change the life of a child and community by sponsoring a school for the 2008 school year.

The Guatemalan government pays for the tuition for most of the primary schools although the schools lack many supplies, like books, paper, and pencils/pens. As such, we want to invite your church, your group, your class/school to consider sponsoring a primary school. The number of students in primary schools varies considerably from one village to the next which means that the overhead will be different for each one.

Sponsor a school! Consider a fundraiser at your church, school, Rotary, job or other and help support schools in Guatemala.
